Acrylic Abstract Painting

Stump Crossing is an acrylic abstract painting that references the worldwide logging industry. This painting was constructed with palette knives to give the surface a deeper, richer layer of paint. The grid-like structure of the background represents non-slip industrial surfaces that are used in high risk areas (like around huge cutting or milling blades in a saw mill). The logs (or limbs of trees) are floating across the picture plan to represent the idea of ‘in transit’. They are in a state of limbo. They are not a tree anymore, nor are they a beautifully crafted commodity yet.

CLIMATE CHANGE COLLECTION: Most of us know that humanity is changing the natural balance of Earth. Industrialisation | mining | deforestation | nuclear testing | fracking | population growth all have an accumulative, negative impact on the planet. This body of work is in direct response to the damage we are having on our planet. My intention is to keep the issue of sustainable logging front and foremost.

ABSTRACTION: Is not considered an accurate representation of the world around us. Basically, it uses colour, forms and gestural mark making to convey the artist’s interpretation or vision. Abstraction is used to convey a story or evoke a feeling.
